Shelby Wright
Candidate for Maine State House District 36
Independent for Hampden & Newburgh

About Shelby

Politics in our country are out of control. Partisan fighting and dark money influence have distracted our politicians from their real job - working for us. I am sick of it and I believe the people in our district are as well. That’s why I am running to represent the people of Hampden and Newburgh in the Maine State House.

In Augusta, infrastructure and workforce development will be two of my main priorities. Maine is changing quickly and we need traditional and trade schools to train the next generation to succeed here. We need to make Maine an ideal place to run your business while still protecting its beautiful environment. The idea that you can’t be an environmentalist and still be pro-industry is outdated. We can be pro-worker, pro-environment, and pro-business!

As your representative, I will meet you where you’re at and work to find common ground among the multitude of viewpoints in our community so that everyone feels represented. My work in local government, recycling, and other environmental issues has given me valuable experience in coalition building, speaking in front of members of the house, and policymaking. Let me put those skills to work for you.

I’m an experienced leader, a quick learner, and a great listener. I’ve been in the policy trenches in our community and in Augusta and I’ve seen what goes on. It’s time for a new approach! It’s going to take hard work to move Maine past the partisan blame games, but I’ll put in the work to bring us together to protect what’s working and fix what’s broken.

On the Issues

Local Infrastructure

Our local infrastructure needs serious investment to make our roads and bridges safe and efficient. We also need to work harder to expand our broadband network to make high-speed internet accessible for all Mainers.

Lower Taxes

I support balancing the tax burden for Maine residents by building robust local economies—growing our State and making it a more affordable place to live.

Workforce Development

We need to invest in more research & development so that our workforce and economy can grow with purpose. We also need to invest more in the trades - expanding educational outreach and ensuring trade schools have the resources to thrive.

Conservation and Sustainability

We need to responsibly use natural resources and effectively recycle and dispose waste to keep Maine beautiful.
